Minimum age for admission to 1st standard increased now 5.5 to 6 years in Karnataka – The government has issued a revised order that the minimum age limit for enrollment in the first class (1st Std) in schools should be 6 years completed by June-01 of the academic year instead of 5.5 years. This revised order will be applicable from next academic year.

From the academic year 2016-17 under Section 12 (1) (c) of the RTE Act-2009 regarding enrollment of students from unaided and minority institutions from 3 years 10 months to 4 years 10 months for LKG class and 5 years for 1st class. 10 months to 6 years 10 months age limit has been ordered in the Government order.

In view of the points explained in the proposal, Government Order No: ED 708 PGC 2017 dated: 23-05-2018 and Government Letter No: ED 60 PGC 2020 dated: 20-03-2020 are withdrawn, R.T.E. Act 2009 and Compulsory Education Rules 2012 have prescribed the age limit for the enrollment of a child who has completed 06 years compulsorily in class I as on 1st June of the academic year.
